Bubble Tea!

Bubble Tea illustration process thoughts

In the early sketches, I wanted to make it as a postcard for print. I included the border frames initially but somehow it made the illustration felt constrained. Even my mum said so when I showed her my sketch. So as I worked on it gradually, I thought I did away with the frames (less work for me haha) and it made the painting looked more opened up and free.

Next I tried to push and render the tapioca pearls and ice better and capture their material quality. The pearls were a torture, as it made me hungry but can't eat them.Ice was quite challenging to capture too.

After that, I wanted to capture the charm of fantasy as well as movement in the painting. Like as though this illustration was from an animated screenshot. Hence I thought I could achieve this through the floating pearls and flying characters. I had to create some depth of field for the pearls and also through the clouds and movement of the hair and characters to create this feel.

Lastly were a lot of adjustments for the colours and repositioning of some of the items like the ice cubes and pearls to create a foreground, midground and background depth of field.

I feel it's still not really the best rendered. But I guess i am good as it is and move on to another illustration. I feel I still need to constantly work and improve on my craft. Probably will be working on one of my fave budget and comfort drink next, Kopi and Teh! Ok take care everyone!
